12:30 AM

Reading Temptation by Karen Ann Hopkins. Don’t think I have much longer in me, but going to read in bed for a little bit. May try to get up early-ish in the morning to read a bit more before the finish line, too, but not making any promises.

Background Music: Sarah Jarosz

Deliciousness Consumed: Pringles, Carrots with Hummus, Celery with Vanilla Espresso Almond Butter, and more Diet Coke

10:30 PM

Finished Cracked. Took a long time–not because it wasn’t amazing, I loved it–but Twitter was very distracting with talk of grilled cheese and pie and Dance Academy (so many of my favorite things). Such a powerful book, though. So far have liked everything I’ve read today!

Book Finished: Cracked by K.M. Walton

Background Music: Joel Willoughby and Chantal Kreviazuk

Deliciousness Consumed: Diet Coke

7:00 PM

On page 86 of Cracked. It’s utterly heartbreaking. My tendency to be distracted by Twitter increases as the day goes on. Also took a dinner break. Perhaps I will actually focus soon, though, since I’m getting really into this book.

Background Music: Holly Brook and Lifehouse

Deliciousness Consumed: Grilled cheese with pesto, spinach, and turkey bacon (calories don’t count during readathon, right?)

4:30 PM

I finished The Summer I Learned to Fly by Dana Reinhardt, which was absolutely beautiful, as I expect from Reinhardt. Now I’m reading Cracked by K.M. Walton and being distracted by the Internet. I was planning on doing more ebook reading, but there’s something about turning physical pages that feels more productive, so I’m reading the few bound books I have left in NY.

Book Finished: The Summer I Learned to Fly by Dana Reinhardt

Background Music: Miriam Stockley, Bic Runga, and A Fine Frenzy

Deliciousness Consumed: Butter Toffee Coffee with a Biscotti Bite and a few Dark Chocolate Espresso Malted Milk Balls

2:00 PM

Took a lunch break to pick up food and eat (while listening to audiobook). Finished the audio, and a little over 100 pages into the other book. It has been rainy and overcast, which is great for curling up in bed and reading, but wouldn’t mind if weather cleared up for more doggy walking later this afternoon.

Book Finished: Dead Girls Don’t Write Letters by Gail Giles (Screwed with my head more than expected)

Background Music: Hey Rosetta!

Deliciousness Consumed: Chinese food and water (Readathon hydration is very important!)

12:00 PM

Made it 2 hours and 10 minutes into audio of Dead Girls Don’t Write Letters and 52 pages into The Summer I Learned to Fly. Really enjoying them both so far! Time to figure out my lunch plans soon.

Background Music: Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars and the soundtrack from Once

Deliciousness Consumed: Berry/Nutella smoothie and a mug of french toast flavored coffee

10:00 AM

Went for a walk/run with Wiki and listened to Dead Girls Don’t Write Letters by Gail Giles. It started pouring on the last mile, so we both got soaked. (Turns out I can run more than I thought when the incentives are strong enough.) I’m all cleaned up and in dry clothes now. Wiki still stinks with that lovely wet dog smell. I’ve listened to almost an hour and a half of audio. Going to listen a bit more while checking out what other readers have been up to, and will then read The Summer I Learned to Fly by Dana Reinhardt.

8:00 AM (Starting Line)

Good morning readathoners! I’ll be updating this post to keep you up to date on my progress (and snacks) throughout the day. I haven’t done much prep this time around. Since most of my books are in moving boxes, I think it’ll be a Nook heavy readathon, with some audio sprinkled in so that I can take Wiki for a walk (she’s not real keen on lethargy). In addition to updating this page regularly, I plan to check out lots of other participants’ blogs. If you’re involved in the readathon today, I hope you’ll drop me a link in the comments or on Twitter (@melaniegoodman) so I can stop by for a visit.

Introductory Questionnaire

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Ithaca, NY, USA

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
No stack this readathon–just winging it!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I bought some sour cream and onion Pringles for this special occasion. I’m pretty excited to eat them. I *might* pick up some takeout later if I’m sufficiently motivated to leave the house. (There’s no delivery where I live–it’s very sad.)

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I work as an academic captionist, transcribing courses for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. When I’m not at work, I’m usually reading, marathoning tv shows, or hanging out with my high-maintenance Weimaraner, Wiki.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I’m usually a bit more organized when I do readathons, but today is going to be very casual. I am hoping to participate in more challenges and visit more blogs than I have in the past.
